Installing Fonts on a Mac- Basics;

After receiving your Email, you will need to decompress and decode (i.e. "unzip") the file in order to install it. Follow the directions in the "Readme" file or on the "FAQpage" of our website. Using StuffIt Expander (http://www.stuffit.com/expander/macindex.html) decompress the applicable file(s).

This download will allow you to unzip the files.

Follow instructions up to the "My Computer" step, instead, drag only the actual font file onto your closed System folder. The font file itself often looks like a suitcase, depending on the type of font. You can also open up the System folder and drag the font directly into your Fonts folder, if you prefer by drag Copy the files to the font folder that resides inside the system folder. Restart the Computer.

Macintosh: Installing PostScript Type 1 Fonts

PostScript fonts consist of two parts: a screen font or font suitcase (known as a bitmap font) and a printer font (known as an outline font). Although the screen and printer fonts are separate files, they are related. There are also matching PostScript outline (printer) fonts for each typeface style. The bitmap fonts and styles information for all typeface styles in a given PostScript font package are included in one suitcase. To install the PostScript font(s) select both the suitcase(s) and the outline font(s) from the folder where they are located and simply drag they onto the closed System folder icon on your hard disk. Note: The System folder must be closed and no application must be active.

If you are running under System 7.1.x or later, a message will appear telling you that the fonts must be placed in the Fonts folder inside the System folder. Click OK.

If you now start an application program, the new fonts are available immediately for use.

Macintosh: Installing TrueType Fonts

TrueType fonts consist only of font suitcases (a bitmap and outline fonts are in one file). In addition, all typeface styles in a given TrueType font package are in this suitcase.

To install the TrueType fonts simply drag the font suitcase icons from the folder where they are located onto the closed System folder icon on your hard disk.

Note: The System Folder must be closed and no application must be active.

If you are running under System 7.1.x or later, a message will appear telling you that the fonts must be placed in the Fonts folder inside the System folder. Click OK.

If you now start an application program, the new fonts are available immediately for use.

Then drag the font suitcase icon(s) out of the Fonts folder window and into another folder or the Trash/waste bin. Close the Fonts folder. You can perform this only on finder mode after closing all other running applications.

Reboot and retry the installation procedures per this instruction.

To use the fonts in your browser, you need to do two things:

Under Edit - Preferences - Fonts : Set the fonts up so they are associated with an appropriate character set, and
Under View - Character Set : Choose the correct character set.
See your browser's help menu for more details.
