KANECAL VersaBar Barcode generator Lite- $29.00 (USD)

With this plug-in you can add barcode functionality to Microsoft Word and Excel ! It will also be available in other MS applications like Access too. It can dramatically improve productivity and accuracy over barcode fonts because the Start Character, Stop Character and Check digit is already included. Because the barcode is created as an image you can completely manipulate its size and shape by dragging its edges. This will enable you to copy and paste entire sheets of barcodes into printing templates like those found in Word for Avery labels. As you can see by the tabs you can change the font size, style, color and rotation of the label.

Also available in the full stand alone software version with Avery Label margin settings for only $69! It can also make numerically ascending barcodes on a full sheet. Just enter the "From" and "To" numbers and it automatically generates the rest. Either VersaBar or VersaBar lite can produce your GTIN compliant labels. We even have a version for Mac users!
Available bar codes: EAN13, EAN-8, EAN-5, EAN-2, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code39, Code39 Ext, Code 128, Code 128 A, Code 128 B, Code128 C, EAN-128, ISSN, ISBN, Codebar, Interleaved 2 of 5, Code 25, PostNet, Post2/5, Code 93, PDF417, EAN.UCC-14, EAN.UCC-13, UCC-12 and EAN.UCC-8 as well!

What is so new about the Sunrise 2005 GTIN numbers?

One of the main concepts of the EAN.UCC system is that any item (product or service) upon which there is a need to retrieve pre-defined information and that may be priced or ordered or invoiced at any point in any supply chain. can be allocated a unique identification number – the Global Trade Item Number, or GTIN for short.

A GTIN can be constructed using four numbering structures (Go to EAN site here to learn more) depending upon the exact application and the bar code symbology to be used. However, in databases all GTIN are unique and unambiguous when right justified in a 14-digit field.

The VersaBar softwares will create 14 digit EAN/UCC barcodes although it is not necessary. If a customer wants to label their items with a 14 digit number that is GTIN compliant they just add 2 leading zeros to the UPC-A since that is what all of Canada and US are using now.

It is recommended that all companies expand their Data Structure and Data Storage to accept a 14 digit number to be compliant and ready for the eventual adaptation of the 14 digit number. They also must be able to read EAN/UCC-14, EAN/UCC-13, UCC-12 (UPC-A), and EAN/UCC-8 and store them as 14 digit numbers.

The immediate impact of Sunrise 2005 will be that imports from outside the US and Canada will no longer be required to use the UCC-12 (UPC-A) format that we currently use. We will recieve products with EAN/UCC-14, EAN/UCC-13, and EAN/UCC-8 labels and must be ready to read and store them as such in the recommended 14 digit format by adding the applicable number of leading zeros.

Most companies are aware and prepared for Sunrise 2005 when POS systems and industry players must be capable of reading EAN 8 and EAN 13 barcodes in addition to the current 12 digit UPC. Compliance appears to be progressing with many retailers opting for best practice and expanding to 14 digits to also be GTIN compliant.

GTIN compliant is the ability to read and store up to 14 digits. EAN 6,8,13, UPC 12 and Reduced Space Symbology (RSS) all encode GTIN. GTIN compliance is a requirement for data synchronization using the GLOBALregistrytm of the UCCnet.

The date (1/1/2005)that all U.S. and Canadian Companies who presently scan the 12-digit U.P.C. symbol must also possess the ability to scan and process data for EAN-8 and EAN-13 symbols at point of sale. Important Note: This does not represent a change in any of the EAN.UCC global standards

Why is Sunrise 2005 Important?

With the exception of the United States and Canada, products from around the world are identified with EAN-8 and EAN-13 symbols To sell those products in the U.S and Canada, manufacturers (today) must re-label with a 12-digit U.P.C. symbol creating additional expense and time to market issues.

As of January 1, 2005 the ECCC and UCC will no longer issue UCC Company Prefixes to new companies based outside of the U.S. and Canada. New term is EAN.UCC Company Prefix. Therefore, these new companies will be marking their products with EAN-8 or EAN-13 symbols

Expanding your system capability to process trade items that carry EAN-8 and EAN-13 symbols as well as the 12- digit U.P.C. enables you to handle a greater range of global products and provides a single, seamless global standard.

GTIN is a term that represents a super-set of data structures to identify Trade Items (product or service) EAN/UCC-14, EAN/UCC-13, UCC-12 (UPC), and EAN/UCC-8 are the data structures within GTIN.

After Sunrise 2005, the ECCC and UCC will no longer issue Company Prefixes to new companies outside of the U.S. and Canada The ECCC and UCC have introduced lead digits of 1, 8 and 9 when assigning numbers to new companies .

It should be noted that your Data Structure and Data Storage should be modified to accept up to 14 characters for the eventual implementation of EAN-14. This means inserting a leading 0 on a EAN-13 number and two 0's on a UCC-12 number and six 0's on a EAN-8 number.
